As the only person on our 4-person team with a design and research background, I drove the work that shaped the outcome:
Set the research plan and ran a competitive audit of sibling 4-H sites for navigation patterns.
Owned the content strategy - built the categorization schema that restructured the site's information architecture.
Curated a style guide, and designed the low- and high-fidelity prototypes in Figma, desktop, and mobile.
Moderated both rounds of usability testing and translated findings into design changes.
Outdated site structure and dense paragraphs made it hard for users to navigate to the right section.
PROBLEM
DESIGN DECISIONS
The National 4-H History Preservation Program documents and shares the history of 4-H, the youth development organization that reaches roughly six million young people through hands-on, "learn by doing" programming. Its own website hadn't kept pace: dense unbroken text, an unclear structure, and navigation that assumed visitors already knew where things lived.
